Welcome back to my blog for another keto product review! This one is for the Banana muffins from Omega Buns, which I was absolutely shocked to receive in a package of sample items from the company. The company is obviously known for their buns, which are a flaxseed play on the ever-popular Diet Doctor rolls. As if zero net carb buns weren’t good enough, Omega Buns took it a step further to create flaxseed banana muffins. I gave them a try so you can see if they’re worth the buy!
Who is Omega Bun?
From their website:
As family focused women, my daughter and I were each on a quest to improve the health of ourselves and those we love most. We never imagined it would lead us to create our own bakery!
This journey started after eliminating all grains and sugars from our diet. It was hard. I missed having bread to hold my grass-fed beef burger! So I went to my kitchen with the goal of creating a sandwich bun without all the unhealthy ingredients.
After several months of trial and error and stacks of dirty dishes, I perfected my recipe. I started sharing the buns with friends and family, and everyone loved them! My daughter suggested we market them and share them with the world. Thus the Omega Bun was born.
Our desire is that it will be the end of your search for a truly healthy and tasty bread alternative. We pray the Omega Bun will bless you and your family as it has ours.
What are Omega Bun Banana Muffins?
From the Banana Muffin shop page:
If you have been looking for a delicious muffin that will fit your Ketogenic, Paleo, Atkins (low-carb), Whole30, Gluten-free, grain free or sugar-free diet, then this is the mix for you!
Omega Bun products are a fantastic source of protein, fiber and Omega-3s!
This muffin mix contains not one, but THREE super foods to promote optimum health benefits…and the muffins taste AMAZING!
Because the prepared muffins contain no preservatives or artificial ingredients, we strongly recommend refrigerating or freezing them after baking. At room temperature they should stay fresh for around 2-3 days. Refrigerated they stay fresh for 2 weeks and in the freezer 6 months.
The baking experience with these muffins was incredibly simple. The mix calls for water, eggs, and a fat (coconut oil or butter). Its ingredients are also super clean. Here’s a list:
- Organic golden flaxseed meal
- Monk fruit sweetener (erythritol, monk fruit extract)
- Organic psyllium
- Organic stevia blend (organic erythritol, organic reb A (stevia extract) natural flavors)
- Organic ground white chia seed
- Baking soda
- Cream of tartar
- Pink himalayan salt
- Natural flavors
If you have special dietary needs, don’t worry! Their packaging is very straightforward on ingredients that it includes and does NOT include:
- NO grains
- NO sugar
- NO starch
- NO nuts
- NO gluten
I tried storing these at room temp but they ended up tasting a little bland and… bounch? It’s a texture that’s a hallmark of psyllium husk fiber. You’ll know it when you taste it. I definitely didn’t get that texture when I ate them after refrigeration, which was extra delicious with some peanut butter drizzled over it.
For the most part, these are very good! I do get a little bit of the “spongey” texture in these from the psyllium husk fiber that I remember from making Diet Doctor rolls.
These are a little hard to get ahold of. They’re available on the OB website and Amazon and from a few vendors local to the company. You’re not going to find these in large grocery chains. I’m hoping that will change, though! I’d love to buy these locally.
A big pillar of keto is giving up the bread and sugary desserts. You don’t have to give up sweets, though! Products like these make it easy to enjoy your old favorites again. I gave this a 5/10 because I don’t think you need them every day, but they’re good to have on hand for an occasional treat.
These are a little above my comfortable price range. I wouldn’t buy them every day. The price probably has to do with the company’s small production size and the quality of ingredients involved.
You’re not going to find better quality than this. The company is super transparent on ingredients and you can taste the good quality.
I love the colors & fonts used by the company but I think the packaging on this could use a little love. I had a little bit of a hard time reading the label on the back. I like the colors & fonts and I think the website is super cute.
Bottom line: 6/10 Recommend
